No legal entity has been registered yet. These terms are presented as a statement of the intended relationship between the operator and the user. They are not yet enforceable against any registered legal person. The operator must supply the entity name, address, and jurisdiction before these terms bind anyone. Until then, this page records the operating principles of the service.

What this service is

Charsetlint is a diagnostic tool. It accepts a URL from the user, fetches that URL, reads the character encoding declarations from three sources (HTTP header, byte-order mark, and <meta charset> tag), and returns a report of which one wins and whether they contradict. It is a stateless, single-shot diagnostic — no accounts, no history, no data retention.

Acceptance

By using Charsetlint, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.

Your use of the service

You may use Charsetlint for any lawful purpose.
You may not use the service to probe, scan, or test systems you do not own or have explicit permission to test. This tool fetches URLs you supply; you are responsible for having the authority to request those URLs.
You may not use the service in a manner that exceeds the platform's rate limits or abuses the underlying infrastructure.

Service limitations

The service is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind.
Diagnosis accuracy depends on the server's response at the moment of the request. A server that returns different content under different conditions may produce different results at different times.
The service cannot diagnose pages served by Cloudflare — the platform blocks Workers from connecting to Cloudflare-fronted hosts.
The service reads raw HTML, not the rendered DOM. Meta tags injected by JavaScript are not detected.
Only the first ~16 KB of the response body are scanned.
The operator reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time without notice.

Intellectual property

The service name "Charsetlint", its visual identity, and the content of this site are the property of the operator. The diagnostic output produced by the tool belongs to the user who requested it.

Billing

Charsetlint is currently free for all users. No payment, account, or billing information is required.

If a paid tier is introduced in the future, this section will be updated with pricing, billing terms, cancellation policy, and refund policy at that time. Existing users will be notified before any paid tier is launched.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operator disclaims all liability for any damages arising from the use or inability to use this service. The service is a diagnostic aid; it is not a substitute for professional web development or server administration.

Governing law

No governing law has been designated. The operator has not yet selected a jurisdiction. When a legal entity is registered, the governing law will be stated here.

Changes

These terms may be updated. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page records the most recent change.
